Esther Dexter
I was born in London and moved to New Zealand in 1999, having lived in many inspiring places and travelling extensively. The colours and energy from the South Island of New Zealand feature a lot in my works, however my inspiration also comes from a variety of places, such as Vietnam and their eggshell techniques, the meticulous patterns of Tibetan mandalas, and the ochre colours of Aboriginal art.
A hint of tribal art and my own mixed media inventions are now dominating my most popular works.
My landscape work is often dreamlike and melodramatic, exploring how we remember places and our emotional links to them. In my abstract artworks it is about the vibration of my feelings, as I put my own intense emotional energy onto my paintings.
